As newbie Should I learn C++?

I want to become a Flex/ActionScript Developer but I was told to learn C++ first to get a good understanding of programming first.

To "Ratchetr". Out dated. kiss my ass you pussy licker. Windows,linux, macintosh these operating systems were made in C language. Heck even all the Adobe products their self are made of c++. About lerning actionscript you don't need to learn c++ or visual basic. Go straight to it. C++ and actionscrift have a lot in common though actionscript is just a small scripting language way more easier than c++ which is a complete langauge. as far as the basic structures are concerned they have a lot in common so i'd suggest that you learn actionscript in the first place.

I would start off with the plain basics - Just Basic (www.justbasic.com)

Then maybe move onto visual basic then to C++ then to flex/actionscript

some of those can be skipped

You gotta get the basic first and foremost:
That said you need to first learn BASIC programming language so you'll have the basics before going onto any more complicated languages.

Once you have BASIC down good the rest of the languages come easy.

I would say no. C++ is somewhat archaic and outdated.

If you want to learn ActionScript.....learn ActionScript.
