18mm is plenty wide for group shots, people, or whatever you'd need to shoot. Buying a wider lens is purpose driven (meaning, you should know why you need one and for what purpose it would serve) because they are quite expensive. A good choice would be this lens: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/439153-REG/Sony_SAL1118_SAL_1118_11_18mm_f_4_5_5_6_DT.html which at $700, is not cheap -- but is an ultra-wide lens. I doubt you would need a lens like that, being that you've only just got the camera. The 50mm would be a good buy (but is not a wide lens, by any standard), it is a short telephoto (crop equivalent) prime lens (non-zoom), with only one field of view, but excels at low light photography where you would not want to use flash - and is generally used for that purpose. Another purpose is for close portraiture, allowing for a depth of field that can compliment a portrait through isolation of the subject from the background by nicely blurring it out. Plus they are quite cheap to buy. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/622190-REG/Sony_SAL50F18_SAL_50F18_50mm_f_1_8_DT.html I would recommend the 50mm f/1.8, for sure (whether you're sure you need one, a fast 50 is ALWAYS nice to have).
