If prostitution is legal in Canada but illegal in Michigan am I engaged in illegal activity when I send an e-mail or PM to a Windsor lady to schedule and appointment (at my hotel) in Windsor?
I am not a criminal lawyer but it does seem to me that it is possible to attempt to perform a legal act in an illegal manner. However since the activity the computer was used for is not illegal where performed arguably I am not using the computer to commit a crime.
Just asking.

I would say yes, the potential is there to be charged with a crime. I don’t know that for a fact however when I was 19 it was legal for me to consume alcohol in Canada and when I was back in Michigan I got pulled over with a group of my friends and we all got minor in consumption tickets. I hadn’t consumed one drop of alcohol in Michigan but I found out in court that in Michigan its illegal to be under the age of 21 and have alcohol in your system. I had to pay the fine. Under the law, I committed a crime in Michigan. None of us were legally drunk however over here we were still considered minors. It didn’t matter that it was perfectly legal for me to consume the alcohol where I was at. Escorting in Canada is legal but I could see how someone could get charged if they made the arrangements here in Michigan. Its against the law to do so here. Escorting is not legal here. I think if there is a prosecutor who wants to make a name for himself the potential to be charged is there.

Good point Pimpdaddy. For some time Michigan Courts have said that the human body is a container just like a bottle or can. Therefore a minor who tests positive for alcohol is in possession just as if he/she had a bottle or can containing booze.
A possible difference however is that your "crime" was possesion and was only committed when you returned to Michigan. You did nothing illegal in Windsor. If my date with a escort occurs solely in Windsor I have done nothing illegal. Since I return to the US bringing with me nothing but happy memories, I have done nothing illegal in Michigan. Or in the Bush era are we nearing the point of having "thought" police? (Sorry couldn't resist the political comment)
However you are also correct that that does not mean that a zealous prosecutor somewhere might not charge use of a computer to commit a crime.

I've always been leary of incalls. Even more so when it's a ladies personal residence. USA or Canada, I will always prefer outcall. It is far less likely that anyone is keeping and eye on me as opposed to a lady entertain gentleman callers at and hotel or residence.
