Benton Harbor Riots

Well, I've been watching TV and they are showing riots in Benton Harbor over a motorcyclist that was speeding around 100 MPH on a crotchrocket that crashed after a police chase.

Anyone here from the West side of the state that can throw some insight into this? I don't get it myself, why riot over some idiot? What am I missing?

Its simple Ron, Every so often Blk People get fed up at being abused by the police, it really has nothing to do with the individual being abused but luckily they return to normal and the police continue on slapping them around untill the boiling point is reached again.

Was it the "white police" or the "black police or the "oriental police" or the "indian police" or the "jewish police" or the "arabic police" or the "mulatto police" or the "spanish police" or the "mexican police" or the "canadian police" that are slappin around the citizens of Benton Harbor. So if I read into what you wrote is, that all the police do in Benton Harbor is to go around and slap the citizens of Benton Harbor around just because they're black. My god you're right I've seen that everywhere. It not only happening in Benton Harbor, but, everywhere. The"police" just get out of their patrol car and just start slappin
black folks around. I thought they were suppose to protect the public from the criminal element, and write tickets I always wondered what my tax dollars are being used for and you explained it so simply. I'm just paying the "police" to slap black people around?

But, you just couldn't help yourself you had to bring race in as an issue.
Ron just to let you know it was a white man on a black bike with a yellow gas tank and red tail lamp making left turns with the right turn signal light flashing. He stopped at a green light then turned on a one way street of course going the wrong way. Then he popped a wheelie in reverse while standing on the handle bars and for some reason the "police" decided to pull him over just to talk and he decided that he had nothing to talk about so he sped away. So,while the "police" were chasing him, he cruised through a "black" neighborhood just so he would lose them (you know.. police ... black...slapping)

but it sure looked like a black dude in the picture the news showed as the guy who died originally in the crash.

i could care less what color he was, just wanted to point that out.

The situation in Benton Harbor has been festering for years. The chase started in Benton township, outside of the city. The township police continued the chase into the city. The population of Benton harbor is over 90% African American, and the relationship between that population and the neighboring townships has not been good. It is an area of very high unemployment since Whirlpool's manufacturing left. I believe the rate is something like 25%.

The outburst had little to do with this specific instance, but a long standing simmering undercurrent of hostility. A long suffering, very disadvaneforum.xxxed, downtrodden population erupted.
