People in Augusta County can now get some hands-on training for a hands-on job. Blue Ridge Community College in Weyers Cave is offering the first noncredit massage therapy class in the state.
A couple of students signed up for the class Wednesday during a health care careers session. The work force training program is a fast and flexible way to getting people out there making money.
"A phlebotomist can get to work within eight to 10 weeks, a clinical medical assistant can get to work within four to six months, and a massage therapist will take about eight to nine months," said Trenton Hightower, vice president of strategic business development for Boston Reed Learning, a partnership with BRCC and Boston Reed.
The BRCC Educational Foundation has scholarship money for workforce training students. Applications are due June 5.
