Camera help for a newbie...:(?

I'm purchasing a new camera in a few days. I would really like to learn photography but I am a university student majoring in Nursing. That being said, I would like to know if there are major differences between a 8mega-pixel DSLR and a 10.2mp DSLR. Should I just make the sacrifice (alot more than I am making now) and buy the 10.2 Mp cam or is a 8 mp cam good enough for me.

Mega-pixels determine how large you can blow up the photo. unless you want to blow up the image to a very large poster, it wont matter. As fotoace said, look for a camera that has a large selection of lens and is user friendly.

I would just get the 8 because the camera is nothing if the person using it does not take good photos. It's not that big of a difference. If you want just a simple point and shoot and are just getting it for recreational purposes and want to get good pictures without much fuss then get a higher mp, but I'm assuming you want a little bit more than your basic camera because you are purchasing a DSLR. The choice is ultimately up to you, but don't break the bank for something not hugely significant.

Look for a larger support in terms of available lenses and greater number of choices in camera bodies.
