Can I help this client.

I was chatting to one of my neighbours this evening who mentioned that he heard I was after some case studies. "Yes" I said, "Well how about me?" he said and that spoke about his current problems, which in a nutshell are colitis and an enlarged prostate.

He is on medication for the prostate problem, and after 12 months (which he is half way through), he is due an operation to sort out the prostate.

The poor guy always looks like the weight of the world is on his shoulders, and takes everything very seriously, is quite reserved, and is dyslexic, so I know he has had his fair share of problems.

I hope I would be able to help with the prostate, but can I help with his colitis, he sees someone every 8 weeks who makes a difference, but the guy has 40yrs more experience than I do, and flies here there and everywhere. Only downside is that its a 2hr drive for my prospective client.

So can anyone enlighten me on their success with theses afflictions, - he doesnt expect a miracle just alleviation of some of the symptoms and more control over his life.

Hello,

Remember that part of the treatment is the rapport you manage to get with your client... And also remember that some people have 40 time one year of experience, even if they do make a difference. Basically, what I am saying is don't worry and try not to compare yourself with someone who has been in the field since longer than you! You can offer the client a treatment every week, which is bound to make more of a difference than one every two months!

Short answer is: yes of course you can help!

Hi,

The guys name is Basil Kardue/Cardew?. Apparently he does a form of acupressure on the feet, and allegedly is highly regarded.

Having read some previous posts on colitis, there seem to be a number of factors including diet, allergies, emotional and physical aspects to consider.

I would probably use a mixture of tui na, swedish massage, and reflexology with this client, but need to go off and do some in depth research into the conditions, and his treatment options.

Still as you say, I can only do good.

Will see him on saturday, and let you know how it goes!

I'm sure you will be brill with this client. Just reading this post shows your care and concern for this guy - I'm sure it will be reflected in the treatment you give him. The reflexology will be particularly good.

Also, don't nock yourself! You're going to be a great therapist!, If you let yourself believe that you are second best, that's exactly where you'll end up. But you're not - believe you can be the best, and you will be the best.

At the end of the day we can only do our best for anyone who comes to see us and if our best is not good enough for them then they will look else where but as long as we are sure we have done everything we can then we have done enough ok ;-)

Report from first treatment.

Clients foot was as soft as my 5 yr olds! Slight dryness around tips of toes, solar plexus on left foot much more active than right. Jaw area "lumpy", lymph ok, shoulders a bit "gritty". Colon as expected was sensitive, and felt distended. Gently worked ileo-caecal and sigmoid colon. Rectum felt quite swollen.

Client felt slight lower back pain, so gently worked kidneys adrenals.

Spoke to him the following day, and he said he is recording any changes he feels, and he said he already noticed a few things.

1. A "thick head", not quite a headache, but a dull headache for about 4 hours.
2. Constipation
3. Plenty of visits to the toilets, weeing for England!

Any thoughts, he is booked in for the next 5 weeks, so will report back as treatment progresses.

For the headache, which is a very common reaction, I would advise your client to drink lots more water to help flush the toxins you had released, also no alcohol on day of treatments!! ( gives a really bad headache next day after treatments)

Treat the lower spine a lot for the back pain which may be a symptom of the constipation, and pelvic area congestion, as this will help the blood supply to the area and drainage of toxins. The adrenals will help with the inflammation in bowel and prostate.

Are his intestinal reflexes very painful, I would try to work the intestinal areas harder to help stimulate especially the ileo-caecal, hepatic and splenic flectures and sigmoid, area where matter gets trapped. Use small massage movements if thumb walking painful.

Can you show him the reflexes on his hands for the intestines etc, as he could work on them too and feel invloved. They are very effective for constipation. Also the thumb/brain reflex for headaches.

Has he tried saw palmetto for his prostate?

I found the website when I worked for Merck and now use it alot when investigating helath problems of my clients.

Just something else to think about; I have recently started studying Kinesiology and have started using The Law of 5 Elements which is based in chinese medicine and relates to the bodys meridian and emotions. It may be that this physical manifestion of colitus may have an emotional aspect which the client has suppressed or not aware of.

From the info above, I assumed that your client had collitus in the Large intestine. Using the 5 Eliment theory, it suggested that there could be some unresolved issuses associated with grief, guilt, regret or similar emotions.

It mmay be that as your tretament progressive, you may identify some of these emotions and felings which the clients will have to deal with.

As said, it was something else to think about.

Hello again,

Thanks for the replies, it certainly is an interesting case, and I'm sure more will come out in the wash as his treatment continues. A couple of things I forgot to mention, one of which is probably relevant from the TCM perspective is that he wakes up at 5am each morning to go for a leak. (Which part of the body is most active at that time?).

Secondly on his right ankle, just below his medial malleolus he spilt some caustic soda about 4 years ago, which would have burnt through his skin, and has left a scar about an inch in diameter.

Could this indirectly cause him back problems?
