Can I Teach?

I am really enjoying teaching Reiki and haverun a couple of workshops on IHM. Iwould like to start teaching the other treatments I do but still very much on a part-time basis i.e. at home and not being based at a college. I feel that it is more of a path that is right for me to follow - spreading the word and encouraging others into therapies.

My friend (another therapist) says that once you are trained and have experience in giving treatments ('competent') then there is no reason you cannot train others as there are no official regulatory bodies. My other treatments are Thai foot massage and Hopi Ear (both which do not need A&P to practice) as well as Indian Head Massage (which needs A&P). In my day job - or my Other Life! - I have given training in technical subjects so I understand how to do it. I have also trained this friend and another one in the Thai Foot Massage, but both of them are already trained in massage therapies.

Has anyone any ideas or suggestions? Or perhaps I could just train people for use on friends and family?

It just feels such a right path and I have recently been asked by a potential Reiki student if I do any other training but I don't know what to answer because I know I can, I just am not sure if I should.

I believe that Reiki is Ok to teach as long as you have done your master's level.

the other therapies you would need to be teacher trained, and also submit your course work to an awarding body such as FHT to get accredited so that you can award certificates to your students so that they can be insured for the treatment.

your friends that are now giving Thai foot massage to paying clients - have they informed the insurance company that they are doing this treatment and are they covered? If anything happens to a client whilst having this treatment and they are not covered by their insurance, then they won't have a (excuse the pun) a leg to stand on.

If you are teaching your skills to other therapists they will want an insurable certificate to send to their insurance companies so they are registered to do this.
