EDMONTON, ALBERTA--(Marketwired - Apr 24, 2013) - Massage Therapy students from CDI College raised $7,500 at their first ever Massage-A-Thon in support of the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation on April 19, 2013. Driven by a passion for making a difference in their community, the students and instructors provided hundreds massage treatments over the course of 10 hours.
"Many of our students and their families have personally been touched by the amazing work done at Stollery Children's Hospital," said Celena Voshall, a massage instructor at CDI College. "We hoped to raise as much money as possible, as well as awareness about supporting such an amazing facility in Edmonton."
Nearly 40 students from the Massage Therapy program and their instructors put their training and skills to use, providing patrons with 20 minute massage sessions for a minimum $10.00 donation. Response to the Massage-A-Thon was overwhelming from the start, with line-ups forming outside the clinic well before the event started.
Along with a massage, patrons could bid on items in a silent auction and purchase pastries, tarts and other tasty treats at a bake sale. Proceeds raised from the event will go directly to the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation. An official cheque presentation will occur at noon on April 24, 2013 at the Edmonton North campus.
"Funds raised through CDI College's Massage-A-Thon will help provide excellence at the Stollery Children's Hospital that would otherwise not exist without their support," said Joanna Begg Pattison, Community Initiatives Coordinator at the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation. "The Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation is dedicated to raising funds for excellence - specialized equipment, specialty medical education to train the best of the best, research to pave the way to the discovery of new treatments or cures for child health issues, and expert programs that improve patient and family outcomes at the Stollery Children's Hospital."
