A fellow just left our office. He is a sign contractor. The city has hired him to set up kiosks in key places around town, pointing to various businesses in the city. I'm sure you know what I mean: a vertical frame with several smaller signs saying "City Hall ", "XYZ business ", etc.
It would cost $55 per panel (one on each side, or just one per sign, if we wanted). There is this *one corner* that is very close, that is literally on the way here for most people, and that is one of the busiest intersections in the city. It also happens to be half a block from the post office, and at the "other end" of the street we are on. I am thinking prime placement. It would cost us $110 to put up a panel on each side of this kiosk. (The other one they're putting up at the moment isn't such a "prime" placement- not nearly as much traffic passes that way, and what does, tends to already either pass our way or pass where the other kiosk will be located.).
Our town is one of a "sisterhood" of four smallish cities that are working both together and independently to grow and promote business development. As I said, the *city* is having him put these kiosks up; we would simply be "renting" the sign space from them.
If you had such an opportunity, would you do it?
ETA: The signs are going in next week; I don't think we *have* to decide prior to the signs going up, but it would be better, I'm thinking. And the cost of $55 is a sort of "early bird" discount off of the regular rate of $60/month. Also, we are not currently doing any other form of advertising- no phone book, no newspaper ads, or anything like that. I *think* our budget could sustain this, especially if it brought us new business. lol.....We signed the papers and handed over the check yesterday. We're going with "one panel on either entrance to the city". I would be all over something like that. Given your description of the area, it sounds like an incredible opportunity. Even if it only brings you two or three extra clients a month, that's still a tidy profit.

and when you call you can ask him about the pre-pay discounts you just mentioned. i say go for it since there's no contract. if it truly isn't panning out for you, just eliminate it.

I am going to call him tomorrow and see in what direction the sign will be facing. If one way, then both could be good. If the other, then why have it pointing "backwards" to us, and then we'd only need to do the one side. Make sense? That's all I can think of.
