Cruise line requirements

I'm currently in school and upon graduation, receiving my state & national license I would like to apply for a cruise ship position.
In my research I've found that the requirements are that you have a state license & have worked at least 2 years.
My question is: would I have to be licensed & have worked in the state the cruise docks from (i.e. Florida, Mexico, Alabama)?

You are going to have to ask the specific cruise line that question...they can all make their own rules.

Actually, it is not the cruise lines, but Steiner. They operate about 90% of the spas on cruise ships, regardless of the line. Nice near monopoly they have!

This is correct. And Steiner will hire you right out of school (at least, that's how they rolled 1.5 years ago, I went to a Steiner school in a non-licensing state, and the cruise thing was really pushed on us). If you get hired, then you pay to fly to England, I believe, and to be trained for a few weeks ($500-600 out of your pocket, if I remember correctly) and then you if you're lucky you get placed on a ship that travels international waters so you don't have to pay taxes on what you make. (Just remember to Western Union all your earnings home before your ship pulls in it's final docking, cuz you're taxed for any cash you bring into the country with you). It's very long hours for really not that much money, but apparently some people really enjoy it. I think what really turned me off from it was the amount of selling they expect you to do. I'm not really into that.

from what i have heard, cruise ships are brutally long hours.....so you really be ready to dish out massage all day long.
