Digital SLRs - newbie needs advice :)?

Hey guys, Im a complete newbie when it comes to digital slrs - basically, I have a digital camera (Fujifilm S1000fd) but I want to upgrade to a digital slr, and Im not sure where to start.

Id like something with full manual control (shutter speed being one of my main interests - I would like to be able to take slow shots such as river photos - something that my current camera can do, but its limited when it comes to aperture etc).

Also, Id like someone to tell me all the parts I would need to build an slr, as it seems impossible to find one which comes with flash etc already included (aka 'body only').

Im really just lost. Im very interested in photography,but feel a decent learning camera would be a good place to start Nothing too expensive (just started a new job and could probably afford to save about £500 for the camera itself, but then theres the added parts aswell)

Just any help atall really.

I own and recommend the Canon Rebel 1000D because it's easy to learn and use and produces photos like these.

If you're seeing body only on the web you're not searching deeply enough. For your budget go for a "kit" with a lens. Unless you spend quite a bit more $$ you won't get much regarding flash, etc., because all those things are extra.

I've added a Tamron 18-200 lens - most of my flickr shots are with this lens - $160 or so. I've added a Canon 75-300 - $180 or so. I've added a card reader, gadget bag, cleaning accessories and lots of other things.

My entire package is probably around $1,100US.

What I'm telling you is unless you have plenty of cash up front it's going to take a while to gather all the fun gadgets you'll want with your camera.

By the way, all SLR's have full manual control. Look at some of the stats I placed on my time exposures - full manual.
