I personally think we should...no need to murderers and rapists out there...bring back the death penalty !
Think about it..the UK and Ireland have the advanced technologies and the correct forensics to track down the criminals unlike undeveloped countries like Iran etc
@Geordie - Yeah only for deliberate murder, rapist and paedophilia..those should be considered for the death penalty.

Life sentence to some isn't even a extreme punishment for some..they still get food, drink and a bed to sleep in.
@Geordie - fair point, but you'd be getting revenge and those wouldn't be a reason to kill them..you could have let the judge to sort out the abusers, they could also get the death penalty. But yeah for those you could be sentenced to death.

Yes. Some people (paedophiles, serial killers and Terrorists ect) cant be helped. They will never change, they will never be safe for others to be around. If they cant reform and will be a danger as long as they live then there is only one thing to do..

Well, they have it in certain states in america and other countries yet it does not deter killings.

However, i feel if it can be proved 100% that a person commited a horrific crime then yes, i do agree

with the death penalty.

On the other hand, i would rather them suffer till the day they die in a prison cell.

You can give them all the most luxurious room in the world but it can never compare to FREEDOM.

Still used in many countries around the world. It would certainly make people think twice before committing serious crimes. It would also alleviate some cell spaces and reduce the cost of keeping a murderer/serious sex offender incarcerated.

And who would you task to carry out the executions? What therapy would you give to those who have knowingly sent another human being to their death? Could you be part of a jury that condemns another human being to die?

What if you found yourself in a situation that warranted the death penalty purely by accident? How would you be any different to the murderer? How does a quick and painless death satisfy a rape victim who has to suffer for the rest of their lives?

No, I think it is more of a punishment for them to spend their life in prison. There have been cases where people have been sentenced to the death penalty and have later been found innocent due to new technology, witnesses etc. but it has been too late....

I think instead of the death penalty they should commit convicted murderers etc for medical research. Instead of animals. You could subject them to extreme medical experiments gather the results and use the information for the benefit mankind. Send them to the bottom of the ocean to test the limits and endurance of the human body. The would of died anyway . No point in keeping them in Prison at the taxpayers expense.

Oh well, It is a very difficult question to answer as my father was a policeman and maintained Ruth Ellis should never have been hung.Also my father at the time was assistant jailer to John Reginald Christie the murderer who gassed women then raped them afterwards.

My personal opinion on this is that re-introducing the death penalty would be taking a massive step backwards....

People should be rehabilitated not have their lives ended, yes i know the victam doesn't get a second chance and it is understandable why people would want harsher punishments.

But in many religions it is a very serious and probably the worse sin is to end someones life, because in that case you are playing god. Also Christianity is also about forgiveness, the things criminals do are no justifiable and should be punished for their crimes but to end their lives would be very hypocritical in my opinion.


No would be my answer.
