First Job

I am nervous I start my first job as a MASSAGE THERAPIST WOOOOOOOOOOOOO in 2 days,
But I am nervous I am a waitress/bartender/manager in restuarant. I work with people all the time.
i just wanted to know how you may have delt with your FIRST OFFICIAL LMT job. How can I keep my cool
with out it being obvious that i am nervous. Thanks for all the support and responses.

Congratulations!

Keep your focus on the job "at hand".
Just keep your awareness on the person and what your intent is.
Do NOT talk too much - even if you KNOW what's wrong with them. I have heard the silliest things come out of the mouths of MT's who are inexperienced but trying not to show it. Less said the better.

Each person that you have the opportunity to work with has something to teach you. You will notice that you will get a ton of people with the same condition. Next month it will be something else!
Eventually you will start to get a picture of your interests, your talents, your future goals.

What are you nervous about? forgetting crucial paperwork? forgetting your sequence? falling asleep during the massage? splitting your pants? the client hating the treatment? Pinpoint the fear, then ask for guidance. Being well rested, hydrated and prepared should help alleviate your nervousness.

Are you a good therapist? do you love what you do? Are you grateful?
Give thanks for this opportunity to be doing what you are doing.

Very good advice already given: breathe & don't talk too much - especially? don't apologize for it being your first day. It isn't. You've done several wonderful massages, and now you are blessed to be paid for what you love doing. Life is good ~ and this is the best job in the world!

You've already handled the server/bartender environment, so this'll be a breeze. Just be the professional, reserved aspect of yourself and concentrate on the bodywork. It'll all fall into place. If you make mistakes, correct them and then everything will become routine.

It all works out. You might be nervous with your first client, less so with your next and so on.

Congratulations on the start of an amazing journey! After 100 massages you'll look back at this and laugh. Everyone has given you wonderful advise. I'll just add this... be kind to yourself. I'm sure you'll do just fine.

My first job as an MT... I think I worked wayyyy to fast.

Granted I was using a lot of strokes and covering the body in ways that would work knots out a a five visit client in one visit... uhhhh... but, that may have been a bit extreme! Even if the clients liked my work.

My advice... when you find yourself moving quikly, slow down to slower than you think you should be movnig. It will save you a lot of personal strain and muscular stress. :grin:
