After years of wanting to actually do this, I found someone I feel really good about and LOVE his energy!

Today I will get a proposal with pricing estimates for all his services though he said I need not take them all, only what I want. He can take care of print material, even get into revamping my website with new logo, signage, getting hits to my website, setting up a shopping area on the site, ect.

Has anyone had a professional do a logo and what did it cost? That is my first and most important issue at the moment. Print material isn't so important, besides new business cards with the new logo. Signage eventually. Website VERY important too but will depend on pricing and format he will use.

Recently I had another logo done. I've had two now. The first was about $900 with other branding. The second was $450 (logo only). It will depend on the person doing it for you.

I liked the first one, but it was an open image and we found we could not place it easily on caps, shirts, etc. The new one is more simple and on a circle for the background. This is much more functional for what we were looking to do with it. So, we have the option of keeping it open (no background) or the circular background for printing objects.

The first one could not have a "background" no matter what we tried, and working up a card/letterhead that I would fall in love with was just non-functional -- but it took me about a year and a half to really get that. I'd highly suggest keeping this in mind when you decide on something. You can love it (the logo) as much as you like, but if it won't look good on a clothing item or you can't come up with a card layout you love, it's not so much fun.

BTW, I bartered for mine and it wasn't a big deal to do it for the larger amount, mainly because the client had some great ideas and I learned a lot from the initial process.

And, I am fairly artsy, so I struggle with being happy with a single image anyway.

Pueppi, what do you mean by "open image"? I want to make sure not do have an image that can't be used in many ways!

Basically, in what I call an open image, you don't have a background piece. A circle, square, rectangle, whatever. It's not that you can't work with something like that. As a matter of fact, with my new logo, I will be using it as such, but when placing it on a hat or button, it is quite nice to have an image that can be layered onto a square or whatever.

I'll PM you our original logo and the new one so you can see why, in this particular logo, being open was a PITA. Not all are, but it's not something you really think about either, when first starting to really look at your logo. As I say, I loved our original logo, but couldn't do much with it. It looked good on a T-shirt and cap, but not on scrubs. Weird but true. It looked good on a card, after tons of ideas on finding a layout, but not on a brochure or my letterhead --- but the envelope looked great. That sort of thing. Just thoughts to keep in mind, and you can use my big bucks I bartered with to learn from! Bonus for you! t016
