Free advertising?

Every Wednesday, there's a half-hour radio show on the local radio station called "Chick Chat" and it's hosted by a lady whom I've known pretty much my whole life, and I'm friends with both of her daughters. I want to approach her about being on her radio show, but I want to do so as a professional, not just as her daughters friend, know what I mean?

She doesn't have guests, but she talks about things important to "chicks" and I've heard her talk about a few local businesses now & then, like the new gym that just recently opened. I want her to talk about ME! : How should I approach her about this? I thought maybe I could call her up & offer to give her a massage, totally free, and if she really liked it, she could say so on her show.

Does this sound reasonable? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

While offering her massage is the logical, obvious first thought because it's what you give best, it may or may not be something this person is looking for or would value.

Doesn't mean it can't work, but before you pursue that line of thinking, take a step back and think about what she wants or needs, especially in the context of her show. Maybe she'd rather talk about your clients than you, and why they get massage. You want her to connect you with other people, how might she want you to connect her with other people? That's just one angle. Brainstorm some *other* ways you can be helpful/add value to her and her interests.

Then, since you already have a personal connection, it may be possible for you to be very casual and straightforward about it. That attitude is: "I've been thinking about how we might work together, and I'm wondering if you'd be willing to meet and talk so we can explore how we could do so in a way that benefits us both."

How about an on air neck and shoulder rub? It could be touted as a first for the show.

Her main concern might be what her listeners want to hear. How about explaining to her how popular massage has gotten and how much her listeners might appreciate learning a little more about massage, for example, the types of massage, what to expect and how to find a therapist. You could ask her if she wants to come up with a list of questions for you to answer and then she can talk about it on the radio.

When it comes to radio personalities and show hosts, I wouldn't recommend beating around the bush but getting straight to the point. If you approach her in a professional manner, she will treat you as such. Giving her a massage and then having her talk about it may backfire if she doesn't enjoy the session. But, heck offer it anyway and she can talk to her listeners about her session.

When I first started out as a therapist at a wellness center a while back, the receptionist where I worked got the owner and I on the morning news show by calling the news station and letting them know how massage was becoming popular and would make a great story for their morning audience. And, it worked, a week later, me and the owner of the center were featured on the morning news program. I gave one of the news people a chair massage while the owner talked about massage and her center. That was how simple it was to get on the morning show, the receptionist just had an idea and called and asked.
