Goji Juice - Do you use it, sell it, or recommend it to your clients?

Is there any proof to all the miraculous claims made about it?

I don't recommend or warn against any foods in my practice (out of my scope and outside my interest), but I'm always interested to hear what other people are doing.

In my area it's Xango juice that's sold as the miracle cure for all that ails you. I've been approached to sell it, and I declined. I don't like MLM, and I'm very leery of those types of cure-all claims. One of my MT colleagues sells it, as well as a local chiropractor. Some of my massage clients also go to that chiropractor, and it was a challenge for me ethically when he talked them into buying it. It's very expensive, and supposedly to be effective, you need to drink a lot of it. So far, they've experienced no positive results. In the beginning, they bought into the hype and were talking about how amazing the juice was and asked my opinion. I said that I personally didn't have experience with it, and I hoped it would help them. However, at this point, there's no research to support its claims. All evidence is anecdotal.

I've been eating Goji or wolfberries for a couple months now and haven't really noticed much difference in my health. Although, I have good health right now so didn't have any issues before eating the berries. I really like the flavor of them, they may be expensive but price doesn't matter to me so much now.

I'm sure a lot of the hype is because its an exotic fruit or juice. Similar to tantra yoga. Which, by the way, tantra yoga was used in the East to help people who had problems controlling their sexual desires and over here its the "cure-all" for everyone to get in touch with their shakti and raise their kundalini's.

The high price and hype likely helps to pay for the expense of actually having to ship the stuff here. And, here in the US, most people are always looking for the "fix" to keep them young and healthy.

Besides all that, the berries taste good and seem to give a boost of energy but that is likely due to the high vitC content.

If you have a half hour to kill, check out that link I posted earlier.

They interviewed the good doctor and had the juice lab tested. All the hype is about the actual berry, but it doesnt translate into the juice according to the testing. When they told the doctor this, he said he knows it. All the benefits he promotes are for the actual berry, and the doctor said so too. He also said that if people dont realize this and buy the juice thinking he is claiming it is in the juice, that it isnt his problem.

I like the berries, but then my hubby is a plant guy and is growing them. We can also get the berries at a local asian market for really cheap.

My sister did the whole Xango thing and sent me a case to try. Really pretty marketing materials but $25 per bottle wholesale and you have to buy 4 per month. I really hate anything MLM or where they require you to have a purchase each month.

i like just eating the goji berries or popping a few into my hot tea. hubby sometimes makes me goji candies (tastes kinda like red hots) or white chocolate with goji berries (goji bliss). i'm spoiled. :

MLM situations make me squirmy. The more I learn about nutrition (which is still the tip of the iceberg) the more I find that people are so individual in what works for them and what they need.

That said I have a client who uses Xango and swears by it for decreasing her fibromyalgia symptoms. She had to stop it for a period of time due to financial crunch and her symptoms flared without it.

I think it's probably true that Gogi, Xanga, all of those have helped some people, but I hesitate to make the leap that it's a one size fits all good thing for everybody.

I'm with you Lisa. The first thing I thought of when I saw the title of this thread was, "this looks like another MLM scam to me." :evil:

Goji juice may in fact be a good product, but since I value the relationships I have with my friends and family so much, as a general rule I stay as far away from MLMs as possible.
