Hey Clave:
Just some thoughts…
I usually venture between November 1st and March 1st. Yes, the weather at times is a consideration, but if you’re there exclusively for the hobby, it does not matter. There are certainly less tourists, hobbyists and everything is priced accordingly for the time of year.
I can usually get a R/T ticket on United anywhere between $249 and $329 from Newark. The flight is usually about 50 minutes, so plan accordingly, don’t fly to early in the day, unless you can get an early entry at the hotel of your choosing. Add another $50 bucks for the cab ride back and forth from the airport to Downtown. Usually takes about 25 minutes. I have tried the on-line with no luck, but I am also not very good at it plus I am never all that flexible or spontaneous, to take advantage of some of the deals I have seen. I just call everyone directly.
I always stay at the Vogue. Rooms usually run about $169 per/night during this time. It is located in the heart of downtown, one block off Cresant Street and no more then a $15 cab ride most anywhere. The elevators require a “key” so an SP coming straight up, is not possible. I usually meet my company in the small sitting/bar-lounge just to the right of the entrance or hang out on the second floor sitting area to the left or right of the elevator banks. I like this place very much as do the ladies, if for no other reason, the Jacuzzi tub, in the large bathroom.
Breakfast is always at Eggsensation, a short, half block walk from the hotel. I almost always have dinner in old Montreal. Many, many fine places to dine, Galiano’s is my favorite. I also like wandering around, taking in the architecture, the galleries, quirky shops, etc.
Once your there,……Second Cup and Café Cleopatra, one will often find some Merb types holding court…..
Much, much more to offer…
First up,..check the date on the ole passport.
