have you had success introducing young male rats to older male rats?

just want to know if it worked. did the older rats attack the younger ones when you put them in the cage together?

i just put my younger rats in with my older rats a few hours ago. no problems so far. older rats are 8 months old and the younger rats are 5 weeks old
the little ones have been sleeping in the same hammock as the bigger ones. they have been in the cage together overnight with no problems

If there hasn't been any fighting yet them there probably won't be. The older males don't see the babies as a threat. You may have problems when the baby become mature and wants dominance, but he may not try it with the other boys being bigger and older. Keep an eye on them though, they might suddenly decide the baby shouldn't be there.

I'll give you my best shot.. The rule with rat fights is "No blood, no foul." So as long as there is no bloodshed, its just a dominance display. My males do this even now, pinning each other down and power grooming the other.

It took my guys about a month and a few weeks to get use to each other. Now, they sleep together, only squabble occasionally, groom each other and share their food.

Its a very time consuming process, but you're doing everything exactly right. They'll get use to each other in time and a the alpha rat will be established soon. Also, be prepared because when the babies hit 6 months (if they haven't yet anyways) there will be quite a few more squabbles and quite a bit of humping. It smooths out once they hit about 8 months. Neutering will help if they get overly...excited.
