Heating Pad

I have a heating pad on my table to keep my clients warm and I know of and am sure there are many others that do as well. The only thing I have been thinking of lately is if I should have it. We as MT's and the Chiropractors suggest no heating pads, only ice and moist heat... so am I really 'damaging' the client more than helping them? Any suggestions?

your only other option - if it is about client comfort - is to keep the room itself very warm. This can get uncomfortable for YOU.
When I get a massage, I get cold very easily. If the table is not heated I am cold and uncomfortable the entire time and unable to relax at all.
So - I just think of it as comfort only, NOT as heat "therapy".

The heating pad on the table isn't typically as hot as a heating pad gets.

Having a heated table pad isnt heat therapy as you would use for an injured area, they don't get as hot and the heat is spread out, its more of a cozy/comfort thing. I too am a chilly massage recipient. When i relax I easily get the chills, even in a room temp. room. I need it warm, and love a heated table. As a therapist I ALWAYS have a very warm room.

A heating pad on a table isn't heat therapy that is used for an injured area. Apples and oranges, in my opinion. They just don't get as hot and the warmth is more spread out throughout the body not dierected to a specific area in need of therapy.

Most people body temps drop as their body relaxes, some moreso than others. I am one that it drops significantly and I always get the chills when I get a massage, unless I have a very thoughtful MT who keeps a warm room. As a therapist, no matter how I feel, i ALWAYS have a cozy warm room and love using table pads. But, I am lucky and dont have a problem with getting overheated or sweaty.

Yeah I agree. You know when you are relaxing, one body temperature drops pretty easily. If you don't put some kind of heating pad in the room then, it is not good for the clients I should say as I always going to massage here at my place.
