Help Starting My Own Business

Hi all!

My best friend and I have been working on starting our own massage therapy business, but aren't real sure what steps we need to take in order to do so. We're in the process of signing a lease for space. Do we need to form an LLC in order to get the business up and running, or do we just need to apply for a business license from the state?

I don't know the laws in your area but my understanding is business licenses are given out locally by the city or town you live in.

As far as the LLC or Inc. My VERY basic and vague understanding of those is that you choose to do that for tax and legal reasons. I don't know the specifics but one or both of them will separate your personal property from your business so that if you got sued and lost they can't take your personal stuff.

Again I am NO expert so I am sure someone else will pipe up with more specifics.
