help with marketing opportunity

I would be so appreciative of some advice please.

I've been asked to provide a demo and/or talk about my massage/yoga business at a neighborhood women's group next week. This is my first time to do something like this and I'm not exactly sure what to do.

I had thought about just speaking about massage & yoga in general terms how it releases stress, etc. and then thought I should narrow that down to how it can help ease headaches or back pain, etc. Of course I want to leave them with a small gift along with my card, and had thought about doing some type of massage demo, i.e. shoulder massage or hand massage. I've been told there will be about 20, maybe 25 women there and I will have about an hour for my presentation.

Any ideas/help you could send my way would be very much appreciated.

One thing I did when I spoke at a Noon rotary group was to pair people up and walk them thru a tune up massage. Everyone gets some work and you walk around the room and provide some helpful tips to 25 potenial clients. To talk for an entire hour would be insane. If someone doesn't want to participate, thats O.K. Good luck

I have given several informational talks to small groups, such as for women's social groups, garden clubs and even at the local library (the library in Alabama when I lived there). Some helpful topics include descriptions of the different modalities and how they are performed. For instance, many people are curious about what is NMT and how is it different than Swedish. Or what Thai massage is and how is that different from Shiatsu.

For marketing purposes you would want to cover the modalities you use and add some of the others that most of the general public doesn't understand, like myofascial release and craniosacral therapy (just to name a couple). Altough it is a good idea to list the benefits of massage, I have found that most people are aware of the general benefits of massage but are confused by all the different modalities and what each modality can do for the body and/or ailment.

Another interesting topic is the history of massage.

As for yoga, why not have everyone (who wants to participate) perform a stretch. Of course, one that is easy for most people to do. Or even just a simple breathing exercise.

If you teach yoga too, use that as a lead-off. Get them moving so they're involved and paying attention. Identify problems that some of them have with simple asanas, and connect that to how the same restrictions may affect other, everyday activities. Then bring in massage and maybe demonstrate something you might do to help relieve the issue. Then have the subject(s) try the asana(s) again. With a little luck and skill, you might "perform a miracle" in front of the whole group. At worst, you've shown them multiple aspects of your expertise, given them a taste, and demonstrated how it's all connected.

You can sit them down and lecture a little on different issues whenever you like, but don't keep them immobile for too long unless they are actively engaging with you otherwise.
