hiv and complementary therapies: how can they help?

Hi everyone. My name is Luca, I've just discovered this forum and I had a sort of strong feeling about it. A clear vibration at the level of the the second chakra. It feels like falling in love.
I am interested in holistic therapies, but I don't practice as healer, even if I've got the second level of Reiki. My background is in Performance Art where I'm known as 'Dhyano'. At this particular moment I'd love to broaden my knowledge and bring light into how complementary therapies can help people living with HIV. That's why I think it would be great to start a discussion here. Is there anybody who's got experience in this field?

Hi Luca

Many people with HIV suffer because of peoples fear of the virus itself... in other words people will not touch them for fear of catching HIV... silly I know, but that's human mentality. From that point of view the tactile complimentary therapies (massage etc.) help to boost the sufferers self esteem by making them feel 'human' again. Touch is a very powerful healer in this respect.

Another thought is that HIV, if viewed from an energetic perspective, is no different from any other dis-ease; there is an imbalance in the life energy which ultimately results in physical symptoms. Which symptoms emerge, will depend on the person's circumstances and individual susceptibilities.
Therefore, any holistic therapy that aims to correct this imbalance and improve the flow of energy, can result in a reduction or cure of the physical condition.
This could be acupuncture or homeopathy, for example, or a range of other holistic treatments. I can only speak for homeopathy and although I haven't personally treated someone with HIV, there is clinical evidence of it helping people with this condition. HTH Hom

Hi Luca,

I believe that complementary therapy can be really helpful and beneficial for those living with HIV. I have a couple of clients who live with HIV and regularly give them reiki and crystal healing treatments. The results are that they are much more relaxed and feel more able to live comfortably with themselves. It has helped them deal with the fear of HIV and let that fear go. Many who live with HIV worry and fear that their cell counts will deteriorate - which will only exacerbate the situation. Complementary therapy can help them release those fears and consequently cell counts in 2 of my clients have stabilised. Now, whether this is due to the reiki, the release of fear, their combination treatment, or a mixture of all who can say for sure. One of my clients also regularly receives reflexology treatments which help him to relax and cope better with some of the physical symptoms.
