how can i introduce a character into my story?

i'm writing a short story and i've got the plot etc. but i don't know how to bring the main character in. any advice? the character is a ugly old man and this is the opening paragraph so it needs to be good. Words to describe old people would be good too thanks

Hmm maybe you could start by describing the setting first and then kinda "zoom " into the man.

For example: it was a cold and damp morning blahblahblah, and behind the abandoned store, stood a man (description description etc.)

well the description is up to you but as for introductions then maybe describe the scene first and then introduce the character through an action.

(name) trudged towards the exit, his bald head reflecting the light of the railway station. He walked slowly leaning on the oak wood cane, balancing all his weight on the narrow stick. He shuddered unenthusiastically and reached into his dirty coat pocket. His hand searched for the box of Polish cigarettes. He looked around suspiciously, and the he lit his wet cigarette, his old lips quivering in the cold. He breathed heavily, his chest rising and falling. But even then he couldn't remember...

well i need more information... i can't say have him walking along a beach as an idea if it startes in his house...

well have hime doing something ( if in first person ) like "I glance over at the window..."

or if it's 2nd then the same really but "you"

and if it's in 3rd person "he/she/they/name" then do something unique rather than "john was on his computer" do something more like... "He was always different, no one ever respected him, but now they have no choice. Jacob..." you could do it that way...
