I just got a pure black less than one year old male chinchilla. I have already had a white 2 year old female chinchilla. I am going to consult my vet and i have an oppointment in a few days, for he will either nueture my male, or hye will tell me if they have a pedigree, and are able to breed, and he will check for diseases. I have kept their cages next to eachother, and let them sniff. I have switched their cages, and i have let them sniff whiler i was holding them. One time, my female nipped at my male. What else should i do to make them cagemates. For when they get along, the cage they will move into is the double unit critter nation, and if my female and male do breed ( with experienced, expert on chinchillas vet approval) then i will seperate the female and male before birth and put my female in her old cage, that doesn"t have levels, so the babies wouldn"t be harmed. And I would be prepared.
