How can I introduce them to each other?

It's a romance set in a 1700's steam-punk setting.

Character One's a man without a dollar to his name from the Isolated East who trades physical labor for food and shelter. He is laid back and kind and knows how to take care of himself.

Character Two's the only niece of the industrializing West's last king. She's is being courted and doesn't find any of the men interesting. She is pretty stoic and blank for the most part.

Character One is traveling to the West to honor a dead friend. Somehow, they need to meet.

Any ideas other than "bumping into each other" are appreciated <3

She drops something. He picks it up for her.

She drops a lot of money or a valuable piece of jewelry, a stranger grabs it and runs. Character one is in a restroom and the stranger casually tells him that the thing isn't his after Character one comments on it. Character one takes it from him and somehow returns it to character two?

Character two is forced to share a compartment of some kind with Character one on a train or something? (I don't know if there were trains back then, though...)

Suppose the girl is traveling west to meet her betrothed? And then they find each other in some turn of events.

He could be a servant, perhaps a coachman, in the employ of the girl's family. Perhaps he saves her from being robbed by highway theives.
