I just ran across this website. These rates are ridiculously low. Has anybody had any experience with this kind of spa?

Yes, I understand this is a promotion. But these rates...what are they paying their therapists? $10 an hour? This is an area where the average rate is $75-100 an hour.

Well it also looks as if they cram as many people in there as possible, since their foot and upper body areas are right on top of eachother and their rooms don't look as if they are private.  Even though we all were in mass classes and not in private rooms when learning how to massage, if I am paying for one, I want my privacy.  I don't want to see other people  or have someone looking at me.  I don't think I could totally relax in that kind of environment.  And even to get those rates, the membership isn't cheap, you are making up the difference in what you are saving unless you have the money that get massaged on a regular basis.

But seriously, I think these businesses are out for the quick buck. The majority of people will go the traditional route. I just feel sorry for the clients who will never experience a truly personal, professional session.

Honestly, I don't. I'm under the comprehension that you get what you pay for. If I wanted to try my first hamburger, and I went to McDonalds and had one of their fecal piles of bread and pre-packaged meat, I wouldn't stop eating hamburgers. I'd ask around and learn that going to the local meat market will have the best burgers in town, try it out, and continue eating there. I still stop by jack-in-the-box every now and then for the quick $1 grease box, just as some people may stop in for a quick massage if their neck hurts, but that doesn't stop me from being loyal to the meat market.

Eventually they'll learn that quality comes with a price.

How do they afford this?Couple of ways, mainly like a gym does. They count on people not showing up, dropping out and never using what they paid for.When it is by appt, you can schedule them to give a therapist a full slate of work, so you need fewer workers, and can probably pay a lower rate for filling their whole day.How else? In many parts of CA, you can get a massage license with as little as 200 hours of training, which is probably who they have do much of their work. Those folks don't command much since NHI opened up offer 720 hour education program.They will fail, just like massage envy. One of my former colleagues did an in-depth study of these kinds of businesses and decided against opening one, because it was doomed to fail. I know he is right.

What all these operations rely on are the throngs of newbie MTs graduating from school, very eager to get started...and we've all been there. They pay lousy wages relying on the fact that as licensed professionals we are bound by our code of ethics not to take clients with us when we go...and we certainly will go. They ignore the fact that the clients themselves, when pleased with a therapist, will hunt down and follow the hands that worked for them. That's completely legal, ethical, and a solid fact of life.Then they lament, or get angry over the fact that they have given us this "grand opportunity" (to get completely burnt out while drastically underpaid), and wonder why it is so hard to keep or replace the seasoned MTs who have brought in business.Pandora is so right. Unless its a party of friends, that open bay is the pits. I like privacy when I'm massaged.

I have to agree with Relax. Its basically set up like a gym, they may have a small core of people who come on a  regular basis, but in the long term as gutehands said, relying on the inexperienced MT will hurt them in the long run. If I want something cheap, I may go to Walmart, if I want QUALITY, I will go where I know I will get excellent service AND excellent quality!

75 minutes on your feet?  I thought that may have been a typo!  After 15 minutes I've had enough.  This place is just like Massage Envy!  Pack'em in, pay'em low!  I have a feeling a lot of these places are going to pop up all over the place.  I guess there has to be a place for all these new therapists that these schools are spitting out every month.

My typical foot reflexology session is 60 minutes. It's really not so bad once you get past the first few dozen feet of your career.

I would love to get my feet rubbed for an hour! 30 min on each foot.  My mother and I use to sit on oppsite ends of the couch and rub each others feet while watching a movie.  It was great!
