How did alcohol get introduced to the Mayan culture?

I have to compare and contrast the introduction of alcohol among the Lakota Sioux- they were given it in trade for fur- and the Maya of the Highlands of Chiapas Mexico. Any ideas? Thanks for all the help. If you can find articles also appreciated. 10 to the best.

Pulque was invented by Tlacuache and introduced to the Toltec culture; the Mayas traded with the Toltecs and I'm sure they drank pulque. It isn't hard to make, and there is Maguey in Yucatan and Tabasco.

Wine plays an important role in Roman Catholic ritual, so no doubt the Conquistadores brought wine with them.

The Mayans fermented various fruits to produce alcoholic drinks, as did most early civilizations (including the Lakota).

Interestingly in the case of the Mayans, they used cacao (the source of chocolate) to produce an alcoholic drink long before they started producing chocolate.
