How do I introduce the potty?

Hi, my son is 20mths old and I dont expect him to be potty trained, I know I have alot of time for that, but I was just wanting to introduce it, whats the best way to go around this? I bought a potty and let him run around without his nappy on for an hour of so, I tried sitting him on it a few times but he wasnt keen and jumped straight off, then he just peed everywhere I tried to then put him on his potty mid-pee but it didnt quite work out lol! Any advice would be appreciated - Thanks!

We started my daughter off at 17 mos on a potty topper (the padded seat that sits on the big toilet). We told her that this is where she goes potty, showed her that we throw toilet paper in, and flush it. Since you already have a seat, I'd put it in the bathroom and bring him in there everytime you go. Announce you are going to the bathroom, and make it sound like it's so much fun. March, stomp, or run to the potty. Lots of clapping! My daughter was poop trained not too long after we started, and was fully potty trained at about 32 months. It's a long process. We didnt pressure her in anyway, and one day she woke up and said she's not a baby anymore and she's wearing big girl panties. I had only heard of other mothers saying that. I had no idea it was true.
