How do you introduce a dog to a cat? I just got a cat and my dog of course has

prey drive now engaged. ? I took a cat in after knowing no owner claimed her and she's been lost from her home for awhile. She appeared she was taken care of and had a collar on. I posted found ads etc. No response after weeks. I finally decided I couldn't take it anymore and took her in as an addition to my house hold. She's a very sweet cat and healthy. However, my dog goes in immediate prey drive behavior towards this. I suspected he would knowing he is this way with cats, but I know there has to be a way that you can have a happy medium house hold with dogs and cats not raised together right? how did you handle it? And keep the dog or cat from hurting each other? How long does it take? I know it's not going to be overnight, but I feel bad having my dog separated from me right now (I was told to separate him so he can get her smell and get used to her sight before interaction).

try to get them used to each other when i first brought my dog home she would bark at my cats but then they got used to each other and now there good friends
