How long should a new cat be inside a cage when introduced to an old house cat?

I want to introduce my playful kitty to my old house cat, and want to do so with a cage. When the kitty is in the cage being introduced to the other cat, should i leave them investigating each other for an hour?, should it be less time or more?, Is it the correct answer or method to introduce these two cats of mine?
should i leave the kitty in the cage for two to three days (meanwhile feeding him of course), or two to three hours every day so that they can warm up to each other?
