How to introduce a cat into the family?

I have a big family with lots of kids and little kids. Ages 2-18. And some adults too. I'm one of the kids. We have two dogs and we are getting a cat today. The cat was found by a family as a stray and now we are adopting her from that family. We believe the cat is deaf. She is about 5 years old.
We took the cat home for about an hour a few days ago and the cat pretty much spent the whole time hiding. The dogs and the kids did pretty good.
Can we have some advice on how to introduce the cat to the house and everyone and how to introduce the kids to the cat?
