How to obtain Hotel accounts.....

Greetings everyone...I'm interested in securing a few hotel accounts around town...any suggestions, comments or concerns on how to go about doing this?I've actually started contacting a few hotels in the area that I feel have that certain quality of guests that I'm looking for.  I already know the hotels aren't quite large enough to accomodate a spa facility, but feel they would be receptive to utilizing our services.One hotel just opened up last month and from what I gathered from the press release, have guests booked well into the year 2006...this sounds like the perfect oppty.Suggestions anyone....I'm currently working on a proposal including the benefits of using our services, prices..what else should I include?Thanking you in advance,Missy

Hello Missy,I currently operate out of a hotel.  They offered me the space.  We set up working on a split, I pay them monthly based on the amount I have taken in that month.  That way it is counted as rent for them and not something they must pay out, it makes for easier book keeping for the hotel.  The hotel provides cleaning of my office, laundry services, electric and a sink with hot water. I have a waiting room, treatment room and office.  During their slow times I have access to the room next door which provides a restroom closer than the lobby.  I do my own advertising.  I am listed on their website but I have a good local clientel so I am usually not available to do hotel guests as we are not a destination place just a stop over.  In the beginning they did advertise for me one time. The hotel also sells my gift certificates at the front desk which is a huge help for me.Massage can be offered to corporations using the facility for meetings and such.Wedding partiesIf the hotel has a resturant you could offer specials for a massage and then dinner for two which will increase revenue for their resturant.Another idea is a retreat situation where dinner, massage and a room is included.  Again, offering revenue for the hotel.Maybe these are things you have already thought of?  I think mainly hotels want to know how your service can increase revenue for their hotel overall.I hope this helps, keep us posted on how it goes for you.LeContefairy

You are not wanting to work in the hotel just have them send you their occupants correct?Sorry, my first post is probably of little help.I think your proposal plus brochures they can put in each room is beneficial.  Still, keep us posted on your success.LeContefairy

No thank you LeContefairy.All of the information you provided was helpful. Although, at this time, I was only looking at providing the hotel guests with spa treatments in their hotel rooms. Now if the hotel offered to provide us with a room, that would work even better.I have a proposal typed up. I was going to put together a mini press release for lack of a better word. Also thought about including two articles that I found higtlighting the benefits of using mobile spa services when your hotel doesn't have a spa facility. I was fortunate enough to speak with the hotel owner and he gave me an oppty. to do my plug and asked me to send the information.So, we'll see what happens. hotel work can be tricky.No shows are the biggest problem. Hotels are loathe to support a vendor in the face of an irate guest who decided they were too busy/important to bother telling you they won't make the appt.The nicer the hotel, the more troublesome the guests.You also have concierge looking to get a hefty commission for the privilege of referring work to you. They also like to show off for guest that they can pull a rabbit out of their hat - which means they will make you jump through hoops (be there in less than an hour at 9pm or, worse, during rush hour)Watch out for branded chains as well. Their auditors will insist on having copies of everyone's license and insurance, naming the hotel as an additional insured. Also, if you use ICs to help you, you need a policy covering them and holding the hotel harmless (this is not cheap).

Missy, I've been pondering the idea of getting a hotel account also.  We have a large Holidome Holiday Inn/convention center in town and I was going to approach them about renting space.  How did you come up with your business proposal?  Would you mind sharing it so I could get an idea?  I bought a 'how to write a business proposal' book but I'm not very good at coming up with content that is smooth and organized.    If you would rather not then I understand.  Karenkparish @ sunflower . com

Thanks everyone for your comments and suggestions. I know a lot must be considered when working with hotels. My plan was to obviously have policies and procedures set in place before actually accepting an acct.I plan on using only licensed and insured technicians anyway...I just think this will work best for everyone involved. Before anyone works with me, I create a file with a copy of their insurance, RMT# and forms that I've put in place. Relaxand Rejuvenate...thanks so much for the helpful hints. I'll be sure to do more research as far as the hotels I want to partner with.  Right now, it's about 5 in the area that I think would really generate good business. They're located right in the heart of the tourist areas.I'll let you all know how it turns out.Peace,Missy

Where are you located?the insurance issue is tricky only when the hotel is part of a corporate group. Most will accept individual therapists liability insurance as enough. It is the Marriotts and Hyatts of the world - and hotel management companies like Interstate - that get their shorts in a knot.They want you to have insurance covering your people - even if they already have their own. And your liability insurance only covers you. Why? Because if a lawsuit ever arises, they will go after the hotel, you for providing the therapist, and the therapist. If you don't have insurance to protect you in this 1 in a million chance, the corporate auditors won't touch you with a 10 ft. pole.Also, every prof. liab. policy states that the insurer is under no obligation to notify additional insureds (meaning your company and the hotel) of the lapse of a policy. The hotel wants to be sure you can cover your people should they forget to renew.

Missy,I rent space from Holiday Inn, they required me to give them a copy of my license and insurance.  They obtained the establishment license.  Although Holiday Inn is a string, each one can be independantly owned and operated.  The owner of the one I work out of wanted to be able to list massage as an amenity.  However, my local client base has grown so I usually do not have an opening for a walk in.  We only advertise massage for hotel guests on the web site and in the corporate section.  The town where I work is small so people are usually just stopping through for one night, they don't usually think about a massage.  However, when I first started out I printed up brochures and had them placed in the rooms, I also kept some in the lobby and usually did two people a week from the hotel, but remember, we are in a small town.  I hope this is encouraging for you.LeContefairy

I'm in Texas...The hotels that I'm most interested in at the moment are AmeriSuites and the Mariott. They're both located in tourist areas, so I figured there would be a great interest in offering spa services as an additional ammenity.I have a license of establishment because I knew I'd have an interest in doing large venues. LeContefairy, I would love to obtain additional information on the brochure you provide for the hotel.  I'm interested in doing either a postcard or double-sided brochure. They want to offer me a contract where SPAtaneity comes in and offers spa services to their clients.I also got a call from a tv show that just launched six weeks ago...They showcase upscale townhomes, condos and apts. Missy,I did a tri-fold آ brochure. آ I did not want to give my cell phone # to everyone staying at the hotel so I printed on it for them to call the front desk to arrange an appointment. آ The front desk would then call and ask if I was available as well as a little screening for me, and then put me in touch with the person. آ I also included my modalitites, and prices, as well as times and my hours of availability. آ I printed it off of publisher and was quite proud of myself since I am not a techie, until a grapic artist saw them and asked if she could help me in exchange for massage.(I jumped at the chance). I did find that I booked more two hour sessions with hotel guests than with local clients. آ I did a one hour tired feet retreat consisting of a foot bath and scrub, paraffin dip for feet and foot massage going into a one hour full body massage. آ I charged $100.00. آ I also had a guest become a regular since he did business in our town and was there weekly or biweekly and he usually booked 11/2 hours as well as purchasing gift certificates for the hotel staff and other people in town he had gotten to know. Based on what you've provided me with, I'll put together something...not sure if I'll be creating it myself though.I too wanted to make sure I go through the concierge for making reservations and having my techs sign in...definitely want to ensure the safety of everyone involved.Thanks so much,Missy
