Ok, so we finally got freon put into the over-sized heat pump in our office. We won't go into details; only that it will not function to remove humidity from this space properly, and we are not going to replace it at this point in time.
So last night, Hubby and I went to Home Depot and picked up a dehumidifier. We got a clearance-priced floor model for $25 off! Hubby brought it over and plugged it in this morning. When I got here about 5 minutes later, I could tell it was on. The humidity had gone from 89% when he first plugged it in to 80% by the time I got here, and it is now at a steady 75% (I believe, because we have the dryer running). Even 75% is WAY better than the 90% + that we've experienced in here, especially in the midst of the triple-digit north Texas summertime. To give you a picture of "destructive humidity", the ceiling tiles in this place are warped, as are our State documents hanging on the walls- inside their frames. Not badly, just... wrinkled like a bunch of little old men, LOL! And sitting down you feel like your pant legs get slightly wet. Ick!
For those of you who know such things, what is a good relative humidity to shoot for here in our massage office? I will likely have to roll the dehumidifier around from room to room at the start of the day, since it can't handle the whole 1750ft from one location, but overall, I do think it is going to make a HUGE difference for us this coming summer. It ought to help the a/c run better too (not sure why I feel that way; it just seems to make sense to me. I may be wrong; I often am!!).
