I've been reading a marketing article about gift vouchers. One system that one therapist has is that they contact the recpient or the gift vouher buyer one month before the voucher expires to let them know that it needs to be redeemed soon. If the gift voucher date expries then they will let the gift voucher buyer have the treatment for themselves instead. This way the gift voucher has not been wasted. I know some of you live in states where you aren't allowed to put an expiration date. I am based in London, England and we don't have any such rules. I'm wondering if any of you use this method?

Consider the two most likely scenarios

If you sell most of them to your existing clients who give them to friends, then following your policy may create goodwill with your client base, but also signals to them their friends don't value your massage as a gift. You end up "selling" these to your existing clients, who might forgo their usual session by redeeming the unused voucher. This would do nothing to grow your business, neither new users of your service or more frequent use by existing clients. So your benefit is the use of their funds between purchase and redemption. Not a huge upside

If random folks are buying the vouchers to give as gifts to others, then the only way you get new clients is if they are redeemed by the recipient and they rebook. If the gift giver really wanted your massage, then they would be clients. It is unlikely they will become massage clients just because their ingrate nephew did not redeem the gift of your service and you offered them to get their money's worth.

Since there are no restrictions on Gifts in the UK, I say stick with the expiry date method as most other Gift Vouchers use.
