Im getting into to deer hunting and shooting, what rifle would you recommend for a

newbie? .270 maybe? Give your favorite starter rifle name and caliber please. I have been talking about a 30-06 a lot but what would you recommend from your experience.

I dont know if this helps but Im 6 foot 225lbs.

Well for my personal opinion, id say a .30-06. Ive had one for years since i was 12 and I love it to death. If your hunting just deer a .270 would be better, but if you hunt a variety of many animals (mostly bigger than a deer), id suggest a .30-06. Also depends on range, 30-06 shoots at a faster velocity and longer range and by judging by your height and weight I dont think the .30-06 recoil will bother you at all. Really depends on what you use it for.

I would strongly suggest the 270. win shooting 130 grain bullet.

I know a lot of people who use .270's and they like them a lot. they are very accurate and recoile is easy on the shoulders. I would reccommend a kimber rifle, they are very nice.

A .30-06 is considered by many to be the maximum recoil that a normal person can tolerate without adverse effects, ie developing bad shooting habits. The three most popular rounds for bolt action rifles are .243, .308, and .30-06. Any place that sells ammo will have these calibers. A .270 is just a .30-06 cartridge with a lighter and smaller diameter bullet in it. If you want it, get it. My nephew recently got a new rifle and it is .270. It will kill deer and slightly larger animals. If you want a long action rifle that shoots a bullet that is faster than a .30-06, then go for it.
