You need to be very careful with cats. They like to cuddle by nature usually and baby's are small and warm and smell like milk and cats will instinctively want to cuddle or lay with the little one. Well suffocation poses as a problem here and not just from the cat laying on the baby's face but their hair can get in their nose and whatnot and you know as adults how annoying the cat hair up the nose feeling is and baby's respiratory system is too inexperienced to deal with that kind of stress. As your child grows it will be time for you to introduce them but for now sadly they need to be kept away and vacuuming needs to take place regularly. I waited till my son was older and he loves kitty and kitty is extremely curious of him. Perhaps increased due to the fact that she was kept away from him for so long. I would ask your pediatrician about this to see what they recommend you do.

We brought twins home to a 1 very spoiled cat household. We didn't do anything special - we kept the nursery separate and did not let the cat hang out in that room, we never left the babies and the cat unattended in the same room. Be sure to continue to give your cats lots of attention so they do not feel neglected. We do not believe in declawing cats so we replaced the scratching post and make sure to keep his claws trimmed.

To be perfectly honest, our cat really couldn't be bothered with them - he gave them a sniff and pretty much ignored them when they were newborns.

Our twins are almost 2 years old and now we need to protect the cat from them!
