Introducing Fishies To A Bowl...?

I want ONE betta fish... My Mama wants a fishbowl... I heard bettas are jumpy, so we (need?) a lid. I heard about the nitrate, the fishless cycle, good bacteria... And I am confused.... Can someone help me?
OK, never mind BOWL, I mean 5g tank... And do you REALLY have to do the fishyless cycle for a MONTH? 10 days is fine, but do you have to do it for a MONTH?

This may be redundant but... fish can't live in bowls!
A betta needs at LEAST 5 gallons, but I would never put one in anything less than ten gallons. In that 5 gallon or larger tank, you will also need a filter, heater, and live or silk plants.

NO BOWLS, bettas need at least 10 gallons, they are not sutible for a bowl, no fish is! Buy a ten gallon tank with a heater, filter, gravel ect. Then let it run for 2 weeks adding a very little fish food every day. That is how you cycle it. http://www.firsttankguide.net/betta.php

No BOWLS, fish can't live in bowls, unless your bowl is a five gallon bowl with a heater and a filter then don't get a betta, a betta can live a long time in a bowl but it will be ver un happy. Heres what youl need
A five gallon tank -5-12 dollars
heater - 15-20 dollars
filter 15-20 dollars
your fish will be really stressed and I doubt it will live long in their, get an aquarium and your fish will live a happy unstressed life, and remember:
No filter+No heater= No Fish

Ok here is what you need dont like it dont get any fish! Especially a goldfish!

Filter
Gravel
A top
Any deco you want.

You will also have to cycle it which takes like a month. Google "nitrogen cycle."

Can afford all those things? Dont get a fish! They have feelings too!

There really isn't any fish that can be properly kept in a bowl. If your ok with the betta living 6 months to a year then by all means go ahead, just be aware that same betta will live on average 2-3 years in a real tank. Some even make it to 5-7 depending on the age it was when you got it and took proper care of it.

A proper 5g glass aquarium is fairly cheap and will infinitely benefit you and your fish in the end. If your mother won't let you have a proper aquarium then it's in your best interest and the fish's to wait until you can get one. Bowls are incredibly high maintenance just to keep a fish alive for any period of time, actual tanks are actually far easier.
