HELP!!!!!!!!? We purchased a young female guinea pig a week ago and named her cocoa. We just bought another female to try to get them to bond and be buddies. Well, I am not so sure actually how it is going. I introduced them on neutral territory and it took a little while but Cocoa when up to the new one and checked her out. Then they seemed fine and sat and one would purr and then the other would purr. They sniffed and purred and showed no violent behavior.
SO, I put them in the cage and they seemed okay at first and then Cocoa started to nip the new one a little and the new piggy would just run off. They would each find some hay to munch on and then Cocoa was being nippy to the new piggy. Cocoa didn't nip hard enough to make new gal yelp or anything. Then Cocoa was jumping very high and running around! Cocoa is making this little squeaky nose almost non-stop which I thought was a noise meaning that she is happy. Neither of them wheeked loudly or anything. No mounting, they did the head thing where they try to get their heads higher and it sometimes ended in a little nip. This has been going on for oh, 2 1/2 hours now and I am just not sure if I should leave them together or what! Is there hope that they will get along?
I thought I would add that the cage is plenty big enough for them to get away from each other. Right now all is quiet! For the first time!
I don't have a divider. Only two separate cages
