introducing puppy to kittens?

i have a three month old chihuahua Pekingese mix puppy who is very territorial over me and my room, and my cat had a litter of kittens three weeks ago. i know it is to soon to introduce them now, but how should i introduce them?

Put the puppy in a room and close the door. Take a kitten and hold it on the other side of the door. The dog will be able to smell the kitten under the door but won't be able to get at it. Do this a few times so as the dog gets use to the scent of the kittens over time.
