My first rat i've had for about 4 months, she was probably almost 8 weeks or a little more when i got her from the pet store. she was the last female rat and very very scared. I have friends that have rats and have never seen one soo scared.. I called her Pookie. So Pookie is a big chicken. I bought a bigger cage cause i wanted to get her a cage mate. The pet store that i got her at breeds the rats there, so i had to wait... and wait... and wait.. and now after 4 months of having Pookie i finally got her a cage mate. because shes soo scared of everything it took me a long time to get her into the big cage, i wanted to wait for the second rat to put them both in the big cage, but Pookie was getting big, and it was taking too long for the baby rats to be ready.. Shes finally settled in, and seemed semi happy, but definatly lonely.. I got my second rat Lucy today.. and shes really small... way smaller then Pookie was when i got her, so im thinking Pookie is older then i thought. Pookie seems okay with Lucy outside of the cage, i've been taking them both out together... letting them run around.. but she is soo much bigger then Lucy im scared if she tries to play with her.. or just establish her dominence she hurts her.. i've swapped them cages... but Lucy is still way to small for the big cage, she fits through the bars.. so i think i'll have to wait to put them together.. but my question is does anyone have any helpful tips on making this go easier... Pookie is a really scared rat, im just comparing to what Lucy has been like this last week, she seems fearless compared to Pook..i think shes even a little scared of Lucy.. I help up Lucy to Pookies cage with the door open and she ran down right away and snapped at her.. she's never done that when they play together on the bed....
