I've introduced dogs to dogs before. And infant to dog before. But never Toddler and Puppy before.
We are getting a male American Bulldog Puppy looks to be this winter. We thought we might not be able to get him because our daughter is so young but the breeder is okay with it because we have been on this list for about 4 years now. And the breeder feels our credentials are good because of our history with Bully breeds and Bull dogs.
Our daughter will be 1 years old when we bring this puppy home. Our American Pit Bull Terrier mix loves her and they are good buds. And introductions when our daughter was born went very smoothly. She tolerates my daughter pulling and tugging on her and we couldn't have asked for a better dog to raise a child around.
But introducing a puppy and toddler is something I have never done before and I'd like some tips to introduce them and keep everyone safe and happy. Basically I don't want the puppy to hurt her and I don't want her to hurt the puppy. And I know a puppy and a toddler is going to be a challenge.
So any tips at keeping everyone happy and safe, and how to make introductions go smoothly.
I always supervise her with our American Pit Bull Terrier mix and will do the same with the American Bulldog. If I can't be watching, they will not be together.
I've lived in a multidog household my whole life, but this is the first time ever doing this. my concern is not whether or not my dog is tempermentally sound, I've gone to a good breeder and my bulldog is going to go into classes as soon as possible. My concern is this is a puppy and may not be as tolerant as my APBT. And I don't want my daughter tugging on him to hard and hurting him and I don't want him to freak out and nip at her.
Know what I mean.
