Is it all right to introduce a new type of food to my baby by giving her the

commercial type? I'd like to introduce fish to my 9mo daughter, but I'm worried about the quality of those sold at the local supermarket. Is it advisable to give her jarred fish baby food as a new food, or should I look for a more reliable fish shop and give her a home cooked meal?

IT is very easy to cook fish that it is better that you get it fresh and make it yourself. I like Cod fillets the best. Other good ones are orange roughy and haddock. All you have to do is brush it with olive oil, sprinkle it with bread crumbs, parsley (you can use dry parsley), paprika, some dill and a spray of lemon juice and bake in oven until cooked through. You can also pan fry. It is a great source of nutrients for babies.

I've been told by a nutritionist that jarred fishes are not suitable for babies. Too much salt and unknown added preservatives. =(

Do they have fish varieties of jarred food? If you feel it is in the best interest of your daughter, then you should give it to her. I feel like fish is one of the potential allergen foods that aren't offered until 2yrs, though I introduced it to my son at 15mo
