I currently have two female Black Bear (black Syrian) hamsters. They are sisters, and had lived their entire life together. When I purchased them I had them in the same cage and they did great together. One day I made the colossal mistake of introducing one of the girls to a male hamster I was going to mate with her then sticking her back into her cage without taking the time to have the two girls get reacquainted on neutral territory. The dominant girl (Sally) attacked her sister since she smelled like the male, and both sustained minor injuries (while I paid for my idiocy with a nasty hamster bite to my thumb, obtained while trying to separate them). They have been in different cages since then, but I want to put them back together. Right now they are in two CritterTrail cages set side-by-side, so they can smell each other and interact on a limited basis. This is the first time I've actually bought two hamsters from the same litter, so I don't know whether or not it would be a good idea to re-introduce them and hook the cages back together. Is it feasible? If so, how can I go about getting them used to each other again?
Both girls are in wire cages next set so that the bars from both are touching. They can see and smell each other, and have not tried to attack each other through the bars.
