Job Interview questions

I have a job interview on Monday for a part-time MT job at a hospital. The only description of the job was that it would be 20hrs a week, doing "Massage and spa treatments for clients"

The HR rep could not tell me what the spa treatments were. The person who left a msg to set up the interview said that it would be a "short interview followed by [me] doing a massage".

I haven't had a job interview in a long time, and didn't know what I was doing the only time I interviewed at a spa. The interview was one day, and I did two massages on seperate days after that.

So, I have two questions for y'all:
1) What questions do you think should I be asking?

2) What questions caught you by surprise when you were interviewed?
There was so little information given about the position in the job posting, and with it being a "short" interview, I don't want to forget key points.

I tried a MassagePlanetL search on this topic and scanned the topics, but... lets just say I hope I am better at job interviews!

My first question would be who are their clients? I can see doing massage for hospital patients, but spa treatments? That seems odd, to me. I'd want to know what kind of spa treatments, exactly, and know before you go in what the state laws are regarding who can DO spa treatments, just to be sure they are not going to ask something of you that could jeopardize your license.

I'll think about it a bit more. Interesting!!

I would also ask specifically how many hands-on hours of massage you are expected to do per week. If it is in fact 20, ask yourself whether you are prepared for that.

I also think that "spa treatments" in a hospital sounds a bit suspect, and agree that asking who your clientele will be is important.

The interview seemed to go very well. I was expecting "short" to be 10 minutes tops, but that stretched to a half hour. I think that was a good sign.

Ok, what I "didn't" know was that inside the Health and Fitness Center of this regional hospital is a small (shudders at the word) spa. I asked for a job description, which I was pleasantly surprised was 2 pages long. The "spa treatments" mentioned only referred to Hot Stone and Salt Glows, which I can and love to do both!

Surprisingly, the pay is better than at the Resort's spa. The hours fit perfectly into what I am able to give at this time.

In the interests of helping others who might search this topic in the future, here are the questions for which I didn't have "prepared" answers.

"Why did you chose to apply here?"
My (admittedly, not so good) answer "um... I've never heard anything bad about this place as an employer." [actually? I don't know what made me even think to go to their website. I wasn't really "job hunting"]

"Why should I hire you? Meaning, in 6 months, why will I be thinking, "I'm sure glad I hired Denise".

Don't ask me why this question kinda threw me - I know I've heard it before (though it's been years). My answer was, "Commitment. When I'm working for a place, I always refer to it as "we". I love doing massage, and I truly believe it is my calling, which is a word I don't use. I'm very reliable, which I think is something that previous employers will say about me; not only am I punctual, but if they needed to call someone in, they knew they could count on me."

She told me that I might (sometimes) have a massage at 3, then one at 7 and I would have to clock-out in the interim; would that bother me? I asked if I could set up a chair and work? She said we could talk about that. "There are 6000 members here but less than 10% use the Spa. I doubt some even know it's here. That would be a good way to get the people who aren't into "spa stuff" or don't like being undressed to try it. Good idea!"

After I left, I remembered another good reason to hire me: I can bring in clients. My business is chair massage, and I have clients that want me to do table work ~ now I'd have a place to send them. It also gives me a "good" reason to contact some that I've not heard from in a while and let them know I have a new venue.

lol, can y'all tell I'm excited? I don't want to get my hopes up, but at the same time I want to "think big" ~ the perils of being a Pisces! Please think some happy hiring thoughts for me; she told me she would contact me one way or the other by Friday.
