I have an associate who owns and runs a day care, but is considering becoming a therapist and creating her own business. I don't know what is required to own a day care, but I was wondering if she's qualified to employ a massage therapist? I guess she has zoning and business permits. I will be performing the service of massage therapy.

Since laws are so different throughout the country, you'll be best served by contacting your local authority, be it city, county or state - whichever controls massage and/or general business licensing.

If it were me, I would not set up a massage therapy practice in a day-care.

With small children in the next room and not really knowing the person on your table (even if you've done a detailed phone screen), it seems like you would be opening yourself to all sorts of potential problems.

As far as I am concerned, it's a little too close for comfort with regard to the safety of the children. I am not even thinking about the rare sheet tugger, but more along the lines of someone grabbing a child and walking off with them on the way out of the massage - some person who you thought was nice & normal; who you had been seeing for 3 months and then they snatched a little one. It makes me very uncomfortable. Oh, no... I would not want to be in that situation.

I could that a stressed out mom or dad that is picking up their child would be a good candidate for a massage - or offer to watch the child while the parent gets a massage. This might appeal to some, but it would not appeal to me... when I think of a place to relax the last place I would think of is a daycare. Parents are likely to remove their children from the daycare.

I apologize, but I left out some important details.

Massage therapy would not be available until the day care is closed. This would be an evening service. Not overnight, and only therapeutic.
