i try to remember as much as i can about each client's personal life.

last week, one of my regulars celebrated her 25th wedding anniversary. she'd mentioned it the week before. so, when she came in on the big day i had a basket of bath products for her all wrapped up as a gift for her to take a lovely, relaxing bath before her big dinner date with her husband. she was really touched.

they do feel like i'm paying close attention to them when i remember the little things they mention. something their child in another state is doing with their children, something from work - instead of remembering the big - stressful - things, i try to also remind them of the little, positive things that most people forget.

they also really love the warm stones and aromatherapy!

I try to treat each client as if they are my only client and that if I lose them I'll be in big trouble. I also try to remember personal information about them like their spouse's name, children's name, recent or upcoming vacations. I'll drop them an e-mail out of the blue and ask about their vacation or share something funny that I think they'll enjoy. Maybe I will e-mail them about an article I read the pertains to a problem they are having.

While they are in my office, I'm always making sure they are comfortable and happy with everything. I try not to go overboard where it seems like I'm too much of a people pleaser and desperate for their approval. I think I have a nice approach to assuring their comfort. If a client mentions that they like or dislike something, I try to remember that and make sure the fountain is off for their next visit or I have their favorite CD on or whatever they mentioned. Whenever they make a comment or suggestion, I will always thank them for it, even if it was a negative one. It helps me get better even when they tell me the not so good stuff.

I never rush them out of my office. I always make sure I schedule enough time between clients so that a client can stay and chat a little if they want or I have time to show them stretches or whatever. I never want them to feel like they are just a number and I'm shouting "next" as they are leaving. I like each client to feel they are the most important client I have, whether they come once a week, once a month or once in a while.

I like to give out carnations for mothers day (or as close to it as I can!) for the ladies. I keep my clients in goodies (i like to bake, or some days I offer fresh fruit & bottled water) I offer incentives for referrals, too. Im the only MT in my shop, and the only one in town. I dont let that fact stop me from spoiling my clients and letting them know just how much I appreciate their business! I also send out cute postcards now and then, let them know I remembered a special day (birthday, anniversary, just because) I ALWAYS send out a card to new clients after their visit. I keep a stack of cards w/ poseforum.xxxe already on them, ready to go. (jot down a thank you, something personal, and a coupon for their next visit)

Hello all... another great way to increase your client retention is with a client education program. The clients who understand the value of bodywork and know all of it's tremendous benefits are much more likely to keep scheduling appointments than the clients who aren't as educated.

So, it's important to consistently educate your clients on the health and wellness benefits of regular massage. You can do this pretty easily by giving a new client education pamphlet each week or month. It will do wonders for your client retention. Really.
