letting reiki flow with other therapies...

i just read a post of pauls (on IHM) and i have wondered this myself a few times...

sometimes i know reiki is flowing anyway and sometimes i think, oh they could do with a blast but then i wonder about the ethics of giving reiki to someone who doesnt want it, by choice.

we have touched on religion (mainly christian to my knowledge) and reiki, so what if you are unknowingly treating a christian and either call on reiki or it happens anyway... is this unethical?

Hi - this is an interesting question for me. I practise reflexology and various types of massage as well as ear candling, all alongside my reiki practice. I nearly always feel a flow and describe (in the Centre's brochure) my treatments as being "enhanced by the natural healing systems of Reiki and Sekhem". I have always said to myself that on some level the client is asking for the Reiki, although they may not call it this, because they have come to you experience the energy of healing. Recently, however, I treated a Jehovah's Witness client with reflexology who had specifically asked prior to the treatment that no spiritual healing be given. I promised that I would not give this. At the end of the session, I briefly performed a solar-plexus press and as I did so, he said "that's nice" and, as he said this, I felt the flow and realised that I had been channelling reiki. I removed my hands at this point. He afterwards complained and cancelled sessions because he said that he felt I had been praying over him - he had registered the reiki I believe. Now, I still feel that he must have wanted this on some level, but it is a cautionary tale in a way. We do not control the reiki that flows through us and we cannot (even if we wanted to) give it back. We believe and are taught that no-one can receive it unless they ask for it - but are we sure about this? There are lots of questions. I feel that reiki flows whether I feel it or not. I try quite hard these days to be the most passive channel I can and my clients feel the reiki more strongly than I do, even sometimes when I do not feel it at all. I haven't answered anything, but hopefully you find my story interesting about my client. Love, Jane

yes, this is what i was meaning. i am usually aware when reiki is flowing and normally i just let it.

its just something that occured to me recently, as we had been having a discussion here about religious beliefs and reiki.

I used to be very worried about this in my "early Reiki days". Reiki passes on even when you shake hands with someone... and they haven't even come to you for any healing! I asked my teacher and her answer was that as long as I don't use any intent to give Reiki, then that was not imposing it on the other person. My leaflets do say that I do both Reiki and Shiatsu, and I also say that they can be combined together, but I leave it at that.
Of course there can be often clashes between what the client consciously does not want and what the body does want. If someone comes to me for Shiatsu, then I take it as a mandate for me to give the best/most effective treatment I can, and if that includes Reiki flowing through at times, then so be it. But I do not tel the clietn about it, unles sI am explicitly asked. I was recieving a Shiatsu treatment the other day from a Shiatsu friend who is not attuend to Reiki. But during the treatment,there were several occasions when the energy I was receiving was clearly Reiki energy.
