Do not follow anybody away from Nanjing Dong Lu. If a girl approaches you and speaks in English wanting to be friends / have coffee, walk away. This is the most likely in Shanghai where you will be ripped off. Touts for massage shops are often scams and anything else the locals are selling in this street are ridiculously over-priced. Take a walk, enjoy the street but please keep your money in your pocket while in Nanjing Street (or better still, keep it at your hotel). Definately look elsewhere for action! I would recommend virtually any street in Shanghai before I suggested Nanjing Street!
