Magnetic Therapy Issues

Hi There,

I'm writing on behalf of a very distressed friend.

Has anyone experienced any adverse effects by using magnet therapy, especially on the head area?

Two years ago she bought a magnet from a reputable company. It is the size of a 50p piece and she used the north side on her forehead for around 15 mins. Shortly after she began experiencing severe symptoms ranging from heat rushing down her arms and very strange feelings in the head, like an electrical storm. She was left with a sensation in the forehead of moving pressure and an electrical charge going through her body. Almost like vibrating, mainly in the legs.

The symptoms have continued for 2 years plus having disorted sensations of touch. She has sought medical help to no avail and a brain scan proved negative.

If anyone can offer some advice or information [sm=idea.gif] she would be very grateful.

I have only just seen your letter this evening though it was posted last october.
How is your friend now? Has she recovered or are there any symptoms still present?
I presume that your friend took it upon herself to use the magnet without knowing what she was really doing. Though i am not an expert or even particularly knowledgeable about how the magnet therapy works, i have had magnet therapy on many occasions from a friend of the family who was a holistic therapist. He unfortunately died a few years ago, but i will tell you a few things that i remember him saying about magnets.
a) You must be careful not to use a magnet that is too powerful.
b) Only use the magnet if you are sure the polarity in that particular point is reversed.
c) If you use a magnet for too long it can reverse the normal polarity which runs through the body
d) The magnets were only ever used very briefly in a waving fashion over the point required in the body.
e) The use of the magnet acts as a stimulant to the body part or organ it is used over.
f) You must be sure of the north/south sides of the magnet so it can be used the right way around.

Would be very interested to hear how your friend is now. I'm sure that she could be tested for reverse polarity but she would have to be sure that it was a reputable practitioner. It sounds as though the whole of the governing vessels of the body have been over stimulated by a far too powerful magnet and for far too long.

This happened to my friend 2 years ago and she is still suffering to the point that the doctors have sent her for psychological tests. Yet she is so convinced that the magnet did something to her.

She had trained in magnet therapy and was selling them from a catalogue, however, based on what you said maybe she overdid it as she had placed the magnet on her forehead for 15 mins. My feelings were at the time that she had over released energy, bringing stuff to the surface and caused an anxiety disorder because many of her symptoms are the same as panic attacks. Although she is still convinced it is damage from the magnet.

What a shame about your friend. How can my friend find a reputable magnet therapist and what credentials should she look for? She's in North Kent with access to London, UK if any magnet therapists are reading this, please contact us.

Oops, mistake with the date, With my dear old dad being a maths teacher the mere sight of a few numbers sends me into a flap. I have visions of quick fire times table tests he used to give me after a full day at school. Thats my excuse anyway.

Will do a bit of searching and see what i can find out with regard to magnet therapists.
